Episode 117 | Why this host sees colours & tastes words
It’s called ‘synesthesia’ and it’s WILD! Plus everything else is WILD too!!!
Welcome back, Middlers!
This week on Meet in the Middle, we're diving into one of the most peculiar stories we've stumbled upon in a while. We have a vigilante prowling the streets of Lagos de Moreno, Mexico, we have an oompah loompah that has a chocolate explosion, Rachel can’t say ‘power washer’ and James thinks the number nine is blue….get into it, because this episode is not to be missed!
Have You Heard? - The Batman of Lagos de Moreno
Jake kicks things off by sharing an unbelievable story from the independent news that's gone viral globally. A mysterious figure has been capturing motorbike thieves, not to turn them over to the police, but to publicly shame them.
“Forget calling the police. When caught, these thieves find themselves duct-taped to lampposts with 'Ratero' written across their foreheads,” Jake explains.
It's a scene reminiscent of medieval stocks, complete with drawn-on cat whiskers as a bizarre calling card. Danny chimes in, comparing it to public punishments of the 1800s, noting, "People won't forget your face when you're standing there like that."

Tell the truth and shame the Devil! - Confessionals
As usual, James brings us a wild story in Confessionals, where a listener finds a traumatizing way to get back at her snooping boyfriend. It's a tale filled with unexpected twists and more than a few laughs.
The REAL MVP confessional though is a voice note sent in by a listener, with their most embarrassing moment at Halloween in 2023, they were rocking a full oompa loompa outfit -green wig, orange face paint, the whole shebang. They're having a blast, knocking back drinks like there's no tomorrow, even though they are lactose intolerant. But hey, who lets that ruin the fun?
As the night went on, they decided to call it a night. But during the Uber ride home, their stomach started to protest (If you know, you know!) Finally, he arrived at his apartment, and in his desperate rush to find the toilet, he'd left his keys in the Uber and only realised it when he got to his flat and couldn't get in.
Let's just say...it didnt end well!!! Moral of the story? Always check for your keys before you rush...or gush!

Rachel’s Furry Purse & ‘Boys, Catch Yourself On!’
Later in the episode, Rachel has a rummage in her furry purse and pulls out a whopper…of a question - have we ever ghosted on a date before. Let’s just say James and Jake have some explaining to do! Rachel then explores the curious obsession men have with certain things in the garden…namely power washers, and she ain’t having it boys! NONE. OF. IT.
"Who knows what we'll pull out of my furry purse this week." Rachel teases.

What the FAQ?!
And finally, Danny delves into the fascinating world of synesthesia, asking, "Why can some people literally taste words and visually see sounds?" It's a mind-bending topic that leaves everyone pondering the mysteries of perception.
