Episode 121 | We are officially back with our Season 7 premiere!
Meet in the Mailbox - The official Meet in the Middle podcast newsletter
Welcome back to another season of pure chaos where British and Irish banter collide, questionable life choices are aired out...Season 7 is officially here!
Here is everything the MITM gang got up to this week.

🧐 Have you heard?
Never piss off an angry Irish priest on match day!
Jake kicks off the season digging into one of the most stubborn supernatural sporting curses in history: the Curse of County Mayo.
According to Irish folklore, when the Mayo Gaelic football team won the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship back in 1951, their celebratory lorry swept through the town of Foxford without stopping to pay respect to an ongoing funeral cortege. A local priest was so scandalised by the disrespect that he laid a hex upon them: Mayo would never lift the Sam Maguire Cup again while any member of that winning squad still lived.
The hex chat led the gang down a rabbit hole of traditional Irish curses. If you ever need to hex a nemesis, forget basic insults - Irish curses are pure poetry, for example:
"May the Lamb of God stir his hoof through the roof of heaven and kick you in the arse down to hell."
😈 Confessionals
When a quick favour for an art project turns into a communal garden rescue mission.
James stepped up to read this week's anonymous student disaster, and it was a proper scorcher.
A listener agreed to do a favour for her art student flatmate, who begged to make a plastercast of her backside for a final university project. Stripping down and lying face down on a giant sheet of plywood in the living room seemed harmless enough - until the curing process started.
"What neither of us realised is that she’d mixed the plaster to water ratio completely wrong. Now, as plaster cures, it gets hot. But this stuff didn’t just get warm. It turned into what felt like molten lava from the pits of Pompeii. Within 10 minutes, a vacuum sealed my bare skin flat to the board like industrial super glue."
In the real world, mixing plaster of Paris improperly triggers an aggressive exothermic reaction that can easily reach temperatures high enough to cause severe third-degree burns - which is why life-casting pros always use body-safe alginate, not straight building plaster!
You'll have to listen to the episode to find out what happened next!
And up after that story comes an honourable voice note:
The barista who meant to serve a "one-shot flat white" and instead repeated back to the customer: "One flat shite." A moment of verbal horror that will haunt their 3:00 AM thoughts for the next ten years.

👛 Rachels furry purse
New colour, zero filter, and an awkward walk down memory lane.
She’s back, she survived the summer holiday, and yes - she has changed colour. Danny confirmed it's looking like a "nice tight white purse" this season, even if Rachel admits it's getting a wee bit aged.
Rachel reached inside to pull out the virginity milestone question, which yielded an absolute spectrum of awkward youth:
Danny: Age 12, behind a clothes horse covered in wet washing with the girl next door.
James: Age 13, in a bush. As Jake noted: "That couldn’t have been any more 13 if you tried."
Rachel: Roughly 15 or 16.
Jake: Age 19 at university (after James assumed he'd say 32).
😡 Boys catch yourselves on
Three lads, zero dignity and one woman asking why men shouldn't be left unattended abroad.
Court was in session with Rachel acting as judge, jury, and a Belfast woman who has had quite enough of male holiday nonsense. The topic: What actually happens on a lads' holiday?
While the lads tried to claim they go for the "culture, museums, and art galleries," the reality quickly unraveled:
James recalled cramming 16 people into a two-bedroom Ibiza flat with only four beds, resulting in him crashing out for 14 hours straight on a random couple's bed before waking up to find everyone had already flown home without saying goodbye.
Jake recounted waking up from an Australian night out with a condom and a sachet of lube mysteriously placed in his back jeans pocket, followed by drunkenly chasing a possum around a public park.
Rachel contrasted this with the military discipline of girls' holidays, which begin six months prior with shared Pinterest boards, 47 outfit options, a Shein parcel crisis, and a full forensic debrief over breakfast the next morning ("Who kissed who? Who's blocked who? And which one of us needs a morning-after pill?").
Rachel’s Verdict: "Men need f*cking supervision. You guys are a crime against common sense."

🤯 What the FAQ
Are you blessed with Celtic genetics, or are you just an alien who hates Tesco lighting?
Danny took a deep dive into an innocent search query: What are Celtic eyes?
Page 1 of Google (The Science): Celtic eyes refer to genetic variations heavily concentrated across Ireland, Scotland, and Western Europe. They are typically defined by pale blue, green, or striking hazel pigmentation, frequently framed by a prominent dark limbal ring (the darker border surrounding the iris) and occasionally a subtle epicanthic fold.
The Internet Folklore Escalator: Once Danny scrolled past the medical articles into TikTok genetics and holistic forums, having Celtic eyes no longer meant you had recessive genes—it meant you were connected to the Aos Sí (the Fae). Possessing them supposedly gives you an innate aura that repels curses and lets you communicate with woodland wildlife (just don't touch cold iron).
The Deep Reddit Rabbit Hole: Danny rode the escalator all the way to the top floor. According to ancient astronaut enthusiasts online, the Tuatha Dé Danann (the supernatural pantheon of ancient Irish mythology) were not mythical deities at all, but extraterrestrials from the Pleiades star cluster who interbred with the local population.
Under this theory, if you have pale eyes and dark hair, you aren't just Irish - you’re an interdimensional star seed trapped in a human meat suit. And your cosmic symptoms? Not telepathy or laser beams, but being sensitive to the fluorescent lights in Tesco, feeling socially drained, and suffering from a mild gluten intolerance.
